Third Veganniversary! :D

Today marks exactly three years since I decided to be vegan! I feel that, even in that relatively short time, a lot has changed and veganism has soared in popularity; pretty much every restaurant offers vegan options, and it is becoming more common knowledge that a plant-based diet is very important for the planet. I find this very encouraging and hope to see a lot more in 2019 🙂

I have some good personal news too: I have been successful in applying to be a volunteer public speaker for Greenpeace. This means that, after some training next month, I will be called upon to do occasional talks in primary schools and other public facilities in the Bristol area. As the environment and veganism go hand-in-hand, I’m sure I will have the opportunity to inspire the next generation to be cruelty-free. It’s funny because, recently, I have been thinking about how much I would love to be able to talk to kids about veganism, because they are very receptive, have a natural rapport with animals, and are our biggest hope for the future… And now it’s going to happen!

A few things I’ve been up to over the past couple of weeks:

Firstly, my Christmas present from my dad was a cookery course at Demuths plant-based cookery school in Bath. This was very enjoyable and informative, and we got to keep the recipes to try again at home. I will definitely be making the glazed aubergine again; I’m not usually keen on aubergine but these were delish! If you want to treat yourself or someone else, I’d recommend Demuths for a fun and useful experience; there is a perfect ratio of demonstration and cooking, and you get to eat whatever you’ve cooked along with some wine at the end 🙂 The lighting was too dim for my camera to work properly, but it looked yummy in real life and tasted even better!

Also, I made a chocolate cake for my boyfriend’s birthday a few days ago, which did not take long to be scoffed!! The only thing left now is the candles, and some leftover Betty Crocker icing:

Also, a very specific recommendation: any Bristol locals should get a “Sneaky Clucker” burger from Vegan Oowee Diner at the first opportunity. It consists of chicken-style crispy seitan, burger sauce, smoked vegan Gouda cheese and lettuce, and it is blummin’ great. They’re also on Deliveroo…

Ciao for now! 😀

The Vegan Kind subscription box <3

Happy New Year, peeps!

2019 has kicked off with lots of positive news: Greggs are launching a vegan sausage roll, Sainsbury’s have even more convenience options (apparently they have nearly a whole isle of vegan stuff now!) and Veganuary has a record number of people signing up 😀

Also, yesterday I received my first subscription box from The Vegan Kind, which is an extremely thoughtful and exciting gift my boyfriend got me for Christmas ❤ Every month I get to look forward to a box of vegan goodies arriving at my door 🙂

The Vegan Kind is an online supermarket where you can buy everything vegan and eco-friendly, and also order these subscription boxes: https://www.thevegankind.com/

My first box contained seven food items, a candle, a recipe card for Yorkshire puddings, and some info about the charity they are supporting this month:

Very nice haul 😀 I’m can’t believe I will get one of these every month! I have already eaten the Mummy Meagz rocky road bar, which was DELICIOUS, and burned some of the candle, which came with a message which made me giggle:

Also, I need to mention another vegan-friendly eatery we tried the other day in Bristol called Thali: they are an Indian restaurant with very nice decor and yummy food. I had pumpkin curry, and any dish you choose comes with a selection of sauces and sundries – would recommend!

Until next time 🙂
